Why War?

Let him who desires peace prepare for war.

Qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum.

De Rei Militari, III, prologue
Vegetius [Flavius Vegetius Renatus]
375 A.D.

Why do humans wage war? Have we had war throughout our existance? Are we destined to be warlike forever, or can we shake off this curse? Will we destroy ourselves?

Are we more homo-warrior than homo-sapiens? In other words more fighting man than thinking man?

These are questions that we have been asking ourselves as a species for quite a while. While we may not have all the answers, we will investigate the causes and motivations for war. Can these motivations be fought and what does it mean in light of the current crisis in the Middle East?
