Examples
An example is a particular instance of a concept. Examples allow you to form discriminations between concepts by showing you subtle differences between concepts.
FOR EXAMPLE
- A picture of a cup, or an actual cup would be an example of the concept "cup." Any particular cup or picture of a cup does not cover all the possible forms in which cups come, but if you see enough examples you will be able to discriminate between cups and non-cups.Click here for a knowledge map of the concept "cup."
- A picture of a Ruby-throated hummingbird is an example of the concept Ruby-throated hummingbird. If you have ever tried to identify birds, you will know how difficult it can be to do so in the wild because any particular example of a species will exhibit many variations in color, shape, and size. Nevertheless, a few examples will help you discriminate between Ruby-throated hummingbirds and other types of hummingbirds.
