Pedagogy MasterThe Pedagogy Master is built into a Knowledge Avatar. It is a set of principles, based on best teaching practices, that makes a Knowledge Avatar the best possible teacher. These principles can be described with the acronym, D.E.A.R. D.E.A.R. is an acronym for:
D.E.A.R. is a general theory of teaching derived from research on learning. EXAMPLE OF D.E.A.R. Let's say you want to teach an alien what a cup is. You could define cup as: "a container, with a particular volume, to hold liquids, with at least one handle." You could provide examples of cups. These could be pictures of cups or actual cups. You could also provide non-examples. Non-examples are examples of concepts which might be confused with the concept. A non-example of cup might be a drinking glass. A drinking glass does not have a handle, hence it is not a cup. You might ask the alien to draw a cup. That is an activity. An activity is an opportunity to test the student's knowledge. And finally, you would provide feedback as to whether the drawing actually represents a cup, and if not, why not. This whole process is a loop. If the alien passes the initial test, you can then move on to other concepts that require the understanding of the concept "cup." For example, "using a cup to measure out ingredients." If the alien does not pass the test, then additional examples and activities are needed to solidify the concept.
